The First Last Day of School Before the Winter Break

Lizzy's school has a partial dress code - shirts can be any color but they must be plain, no designs. The pants must be dark blue, khaki or levis. BUT, on the last day of school before the 3 week long winter break, the school allowed the students to dress Christmassy. Lizzy was ecstatic!! She put on her Christmas shirt, which she has been wearing almost every day after school for two weeks now. She even let me fix her hair all cutsey. Yes! (She usually just wants it fixed one certain way - a bow on the side.) She was so excited to head out the door that day and I was excited for her to have a ton of fun with her friends and her teacher.

Later that day I volunteered in Lizzy's classroom for their class Christmas party. The students each made a "winter scene" for which we parents brought all of the supplies. They covered a plate with white frosting for snow and then frosted a sugar cone with green frosting to look like a tree and then they decorated away with all the goodies they could find. As you can see, several parents volunteered to help for the party as well. Mrs. McMullen says she doesn't remember the last time she had a class with so much parental support. That is a good sign for these students.

There was frosting, candy, pretzels and marshmallows everywhere, as well as laughing and creating and smiling and Christmas music and happying all around.
