Yuma's Electric Light Parade

Every December Yuma has an electric light parade. We have actually never been but I had planned on trying to fight the crowds and attend this year. A couple of hours before the parade was to begin I received a text from a friend of mine who runs a business called "The Treehouse". It is a hourly drop-in day care that my kids adore and I love because I know and trust the owners and employees.

Anyway, my friend Edna texted me and asked if Ben and Lizzy wanted to be on the Treehouse float for the parade. Well, I'm not dumb, I said "Yes!" I dressed the kids in their Christmas gear, we picked Troy up from work and off we went to the festivities.

I was not looking forward to riding the float myself but I must say watching Lizzy do her thang during the whole parade made it worth being seen by 10,000 people. (I don't know how many people were there but it seemed like that many!) Lizzy was in her element. Keeping the kids and adults on the float singing fun Christmas songs - especially "Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer". She just performed and performed for the crowds throughout the whole parade route.

The next morning she woke up and immediately asked when she could be in another parade. That girl just has way too much energy! :) I love her for that.

The parade theme was "Storybook" so they used this Rapunzel tower which had been constructed for a theatrical production but was not being used any longer. It was perfect! Here is Troy helping to get things rigged up. The rope light was used as Rapunzel's hair. No, Troy did not play Rapunzel. :)

Ben was just happy to be there. He had no idea what he was in for. Although he was not a performer as was his big sister, he still had a great time and is also asking for another turn at being in a parade. His one liner for the night was "And a happy new year too!" which he said over and over and over again.
