Least Rainiest US City: Yuma, AZ = average 17 days of rain per year (I think it is much less)
US City with the most sunshine: Yuma, AZ = 90% of year is sunshine and clear, blue skies.
Since Tuesday, January 19, 2009, Yuma has received 1.87 inches of rain and it is still coming down. That sounds like nothin' to most of the world but to us, it is BIG and I LOVE it!!
As I went out to get the mail I noticed a sight I haven't seen in Yuma ever, or at least in a very long time...a gutter full of raging water. Oh the memories returned. Wonderful memories of damning up the gutters when I was a kid (making the old man across the street angry at us), floating our little homemade leaf boats down the gutter into our little "lake". Great memories!
My nephew Porter was visiting. He and Lizzy didn't need me to tell them how to have fun in puddles of water. It must be instinctual because they haven't really ever done it but they knew what to do and I let them play in the mud and water as much as they wanted.
Their little hearts went out to the poor potato bugs floating around in the puddles. Porter and Lizzy set out to rescue as many as possible. Building up rock sanctuaries for the little flood victims and relocating them to drier ground.
It was good old fashioned little kid fun and I was incredibly happy to let them play, play, play!
Some of the lucky survivors. Lizzy was determined to figure out how to make a dress for the mommy potato bug. :)
Oh what fun to be young and carefree in the rain!! My mom says you guys are just getting dumped on! She said the let school out early yesterday and cancelled today due to the flooding! That's nuts! Well, while you guys are getting rain, we are getting the same amount in snow! Crazy weather!! :)
ReplyDeleteSometimes living in Yuma sounds nice, sunshine and warm weather. Lizzy is such a beautiful girl.
ReplyDeleteI remember playing with bugs. I used to name them and everything...but I don't think I tried to dress them.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't see any potato bugs, but we did find lots of worms. We collected several and put them by the fruit trees in our backyard. Bugs are such wonderful things!
