In four weeks, I will be in Utah attending a wonderful program called Especially For Women. You can read about my previous experiences here. I will be a counselor over a group of women I've never met, learning about them, learning from them and learning with them. The Spirit will wrap around us like a warm, cozy quilt, filling us with much needed love and acceptance, healing our wounds and strengthening our hearts. We will laugh and cry and eat chocolate and stay up late and be instructed in so many different ways. By the end of the week we will know why a loving Father sent us there and we will be grateful and we will feel closer to Him and our powerful destiny will be clearer than it was before we began the week. We will feel smart and beautiful and capable and free and ready to take on the world.

Especially For Women
This is the new name and logo for an amazing women's retreat I have been fortunate enough to be able to attend for the last three summers. The first year I went as a participant and then was invited back as part of the staff. It is an honor to be associated with this extraordinary program and the extraordinary people who make it happen.
It is hard leaving my family for a whole week but it has been one of the best things I could have done for them. Truly.

The dates this year are Aug 2 - 7, 2010. We will once again be staying at the beautiful U of U campus in the Olympic village dorms.

A New You - 2009
I just returned home from a retreat for women called "A New You". It was held at the University of Utah this year. Words can't even describe what that program has done for me. So much is taught during the week long conference. Spiritual messages are heard each morning and evening with inspirational devotionals and firesides. Other topics include: motivation, goals, nutrition and health, time management, fashion tips, what styles and colors look best on you, how to hold yourself properly, not to mention a fabulous make-over at a great salon. Through the promptings of the Spirit each teacher, no matter the topic, is able to weave inspirational messages into each class.
This conference focuses on the whole package, not just spiritual and mental well being. I have discovered, from my own experience, that when a woman feels confidant about how she looks (not that she has tons of make-up on or the most expensive clothing or is stick thin, but that she feels confidant in her ability to present herself well), then she is powerful and able to face all that comes her way and others give her more respect and take her more seriously. When I explain to others, I see the lights go on in their eyes as they fully comprehend the scope and vision of what is taught at "A New You". You truly cannot separate the spiritual from the physical - they go hand in hand and by improving both a woman (or a man) is more in tune with their whole self.
This was the third year that I had the opportunity to be involved in this conference. The last two years I have had the honor of being part of the staff. But, participant or staff, it doesn't matter, I have come home a new me each time. A new, more confidant, more peaceful and more grateful daughter of our Father in Heaven. The Spirit was felt so strongly this year as Barbara Barrington Jones (Creator and organizer of A New You), Julie De Azevedo, Brad Wilcox, Kenneth Cope, Jessie Clark-Funk, Chieko Okazaki and Dr. John Lund shared their incredible testimonies and talents with us. I was filled. In fact, I told a friend today that this program doesn't just fill your bucket...you actually get a new bucket!
I am asking that those whom I have met over the years who have also attended this conference, add their two cents as well. I want to know what A New You has done for you. I did not take any pictures this year (I left the camera with Troy so I could see pictures of what he and the kids were doing all week) It is no matter. My heart took enough pictures to last forever.

It's Time to Register for A NEW YOU

A lot of you have asked that I keep you informed about a program I have attended in the past titled "A New You". For the past 13 years the program has been held at BYU-Hawaii but this year it will be held at the U of U. I went two years ago as a participant and last year I went back as a counselor. I have been asked to return again as a counselor and am very excited and honored to have this opportunity again. The following is a letter that was sent to me from the program's director, Barbara Barrington Jones. She asked that we distribute this to our friends and family. I hope some of you can attend and that you will register sooner rather than later as it will fill up very fast this year because it is in Utah, and there are a limited amount of rooms - it will be sold out soon.
This year's program will be at the world renowned Olympic Village on the University of Utah Campus in Salk Lake City, August 3-8, 2009. You will come for a week of internal and external rejuvenation that will change your life forever! Retreat from your everyday world and find your real self again and most importantly, grow spiritually through the strengthening of your relationshiop with God and Christ.
You will enjoy daily morningsides with Barbara Barrington Jones who will help you find "Joy in the Journey." In this newly desigend program you will enjoy a series of nightly concerts and devotionals to uplift and spiritually inspire you. This series will feature the musical talents of Kenneth Cope, Julie de Azevedo and Jessie Clark-Funk along with the speaking talents of Chieko Okazaki, John Lund and Brad Wilcox.

What is A NEW YOU?
I wanted to quickly explain the links on the side of the blog. Two years ago Troy surprised me with a ticket to Hawaii for JUST ME to go to a women's conference held at BYU Hawaii each year called "A New You". He pretty much shoved me on the plane and took care of the kids all week. (By the way, he also taught an extra class at the college to pay for it - I just had to let you all know what a fantastic husband I have) I had such an amazing experience - without a doubt the Lord had a hand in sending me there. The following year, I received a phone call from the director of the conference, Barbara Barrington-Jones, asking me to come back as a counselor. I was a complete idiot on the phone speaking with this ultra classy lady but I somehow got the word "yes" out of my mouth and, once again, I had one of the most amazing experiences of my life. This picture is of my co-counselor, Cristie Gardner, her wonderful daugther Emily and Chieko Okasaki. Chieko kind of adopted the Gardners the year before and so I got to hang out with her this last year - she is an 82-year-old riot!!! What fun!
This year the conference will be held in Salt Lake at the University of Utah. It is the first week of August and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU WOMEN SHOULD GO!!!!!!!!! I can't even say that enough. I have been asked to be a counselor once again (kind of like a girls camp counselor but for a group of adult women). I can't wait! It can change your life.
