My big boy Ben turns 3-years-old on February 22nd. Lizzy had a birthday party last month and ever since then Ben has been asking about his birthday party so I decided we better get something organized. Ben helped me pick out a theme. It was either Buzz Lightyear or Spiderman. Spidey won because I found some party supplies on major clearance. :)

The first thing Ben said to me when he woke up Saturday morning was "My Spiderman party is today!!" He was so excited to have his friends come over and play but that was before he saw the cake.

Once the cake was finished, Ben just had to stay as close to it as possible.

Ben sat by his cake and tried really hard not to poke it with his fingers.

His friends played party games

Ben sat by his cake and told me repeatedly that the Spidey on the cake was really himself.

We all had so much fun - especially Ben. He hasn't stopped talking about his birthday party. I almost decided he was too young for a party - I'm so glad I didn't - even if his favorite guest at the party was the cake! :)
The cake is covered with marshmallow fondant:
1 bag (8 0z) mini marshmallows (very important)
4 cups powdered sugar
2 TBS water
Put marshmallows in microwave safe bowl with water. Microwave for 1 min. Stir until all marshmallows are melted (microwave for 30 more seconds if necessary). Add powdered sugar. Add food coloring if desired. Dust your hands and counter top with powdered sugar. Begin kneading the fondant until it can be kneaded on counter top. Knead until all powdered sugar and food coloring has been worked into fondant and it doesn't stick to counter top. roll out to desired shape with rolling pin. Place on an already frosted cake. EASY SHMEASY!! Everyone will think you are a professional!
What a great cake!! For a bit I did think it was store bought!! Awesome job on it!! I'm glad Ben enjoyed his birthday!! Don't wish ALL birthdays could be that fun (even as you get older?!) :) :)
