Why I Love "The Princess and the Frog"

Lizzy has fallen in love with Disney's "The Princess and the Frog". As with any movie, it is not perfect. I wish I could change some aspects of the show but frankly, I have fallen in love with it too. Here are the reasons why and how this has affected our home...

Tiana is a hard working girl who is willing to do what it takes to make her dreams come true. She doesn't need some handsome prince to rescue her. Since we brought the movie home, Lizzy has said several times, "I have to work hard to make my dreams come true." Well, I like that!! She has started to do extra jobs around the house trying to earn money to buy a Tiana doll. All of this was done and decided by Lizzy with no input from myself. I like that a lot!
The movie takes place in New Orleans and much of their cultural norms are a huge part of the movie and are now becoming a part of our home. For example...I have NEVER eaten gumbo and have NEVER had any desire to do so, but Lizzy convinced me she needed to eat some. So, we found a recipe and spent a day cooking together. Lizzy learned to "mince" as did Prince Naveen in the movie. The gumbo and biscuits turned out to be delicious!! We will make it again.Lizzy LOVES the fun, jazzy music in the movie. We have downloaded some of the songs and listen and dance together several times a day. I love that she is being exposed to new types of music and that it makes her get up off the couch and move around.
AND
Yes, I'm going to say it...I love that there isn't even a thought in Lizzy's head that Tiana is an African American princess. To Lizzy, Tiana just has beautiful brown skin just like she has beautiful white skin. Actually, Lizzy has yet to even point out the different skin colors. She thinks Tiana is beautiful.(She even admitted to me the other day that she secretly has a crush on Prince Naveen - here we go!)
