A few posts ago I wrote about Lizzy wanting to find the cure for cancer. She has a friend in school who has Leukemia. His grandmother told me that he is very willing to talk about his experience with anyone willing to listen. Lizzy was willing to listen.
So, she went to school Monday morning and talked with him about his experience. He told her that mainly it is just about a whole bunch of shots and medicine and going to the hospital and sore throats and stomach aches. He was very open with her about how it all felt and what happened to him.
Yesterday, after school, we were looking over the papers she had done during school that day. Her teacher has trained the students to turn the paper over when they are done and draw pictures until the allotted time is up. This picture was on the back of one of Lizzy's assignment papers It says, "Cancer Richie has cancer" She even drew what she remembered from the videos we watched about how cancer forms. That is the blue ball looking thing with red squiggles - those are the blood vessels that grow around the cancer cells. It actually looks a lot like the pictures we saw on you tube the other day.
I really don't know what to say about it all. I just wanted to have this on record for some reason and note that I should never underestimate the depth of my children or any other children for that matter.
