"Mommy, I have something to tell you."
"Okay. Let's hear it."
"Some kids in my class were sad today because they missed their moms. I was sad yesterday because I wanted you so what I did was that I just wiped my tears and put a smile back on my face and that was just what my heart needed to start getting back together again."
"Wow, Lizzy. I'm so glad you figured that out."
"Yeah, I just figured that out all on my own. So today I told my friends that if they wanted their hearts to not be all crumbly anymore they just needed to take the sadness out of their hearts and give their faces a smile back and they would be happy again."
"Is that how it works?"
"Yeah, when you let yourself feel too much sadness your heart starts to be sick so if you want it to be better again you have to take all of that sadness out of your heart, you just have to give it all up, and then smile and that smile will enter your heart where the sadness was and it will stick to your heart like glue so you can be better again. But if you let the sadness back in again the glue won't stick any more and then your heart will be all crumbly again."
"I'll try to remember that."
I interviewed Lizzy several times to make sure I could correctly quote her prescription. I will definitely try hard to remember her advice to GIVE UP the sadness. I hate it when my heart is all crumbly.
