On the second day of our little spend-as-little-money-as-possible-but-still-have-a-fun-time family vacation in San Diego, we went, where else? TO THE BEACH! We love the beach. This time, since we were in downtown San Diego, we decided to try the beach on Coronado Island. It was packed but still fun.
Troy, Ben and Lizzy out in the water
Can you see the golden flecks in the sand? It was beautiful!
This beach has lots of local sea life. We hunted for crabs in the rocks (no pics - I was too busy helping the kids with a bucket and shovel) Troy was brave enough to pick one up. I thought he was crazy.
See this guy? It is a dead jelly fish. It washed up onto shore...in almost the exact place where Lizzy was standing. She was very curious, as Lizzy naturally is and so she got closer. I saw her quick enough to get her out of the way but not quick enough to keep her from getting a bit of a sting. Yes, dead jelly fish can still sting.
She started screaming! I didn't know it had even touched her. My mind raced...what do I do for a jelly fish sting? One of the locals ran up and said, "You've got to get some vinegar asap! She is in a lot of pain!." Thanks but...where in the world am I going to get vinegar?! Luckily we had already started packing up to go and so we just grabbed everything and ran (as fast as you can run through loose sand). Lizzy continued to scream. I stopped at a couple of vender booths by the Coronado hotel there on the beach but they didn't have vinegar! Who are these people?!
We finally found a Subway Sandwiches about 1/2 a mile away ( it seemed so much longer!) They graciously gave me a bit of vinegar. The instant I put it on Lizzy's foot, she stopped crying and she said the pain was gone. Amazing! I will, forevermore, pack vinegar with us each time we head to the beach.
Well, once the drama was over, we had two sleepy kiddos. Aren't they cute?
Our time together was just so fun! If you ask me that was the best part - we were together. The next day Troy left for Utah and the kids and I headed home. We continued our party until daddy got home but he doesn't need to know that! :)
