How Does the Holy Ghost Make Me Feel?

I have written before how important it is to help our children learn to feel, recognize and then obey the promptings of the Holy Ghost. One tool that I have found that helps in this endeavor is this wonderful book How Does The Holy Ghost Make Me Feel?

Each page of this book discusses a different way the Holy Ghost can help us and how we will know when his promptings come, along with scriptures references to back up the information.

Here is how it helped me this morning...Lizzy, Ben and I sat and read some of this book together. We didn't get too far before Lizzy said, "I've felt that before." I asked her to share more. As she shared a sweet little experience with me, I felt the power of the Holy Ghost around me and even Ben felt the feeling as well. (Whenever Ben feels the spirit he says, "Where is Jesus? I can't see Him." He looks around for Jesus and I know he is feeling the Spirit and wants to see the source.)

As we read this book, I am also able to share some spiritual experiences of times I knew the Holy Ghost was helping me. My testimony is strengthened. I hope my children's testimonies are strengthened. All is good. :)

Julie B. Beck once said, "The ability to qualify for, receive, and act on personal revelation is the single most important skill that can be acquired in this life." We push our children in school to learn all of the academic skills they possibly can. We pay big bucks and spend lots of time helping our children develop talents such as dancing, musical instruments, sports etc. But you just read what sister Beck said, THE MOST IMPORTANT SKILL IS LEARNING TO RECOGNIZE THE HOLY GHOST.

It is a skill that must be taught, practiced and cultivated, over and over and over again. AND I believe with all of my heart that a child is never too young to start learning this skill. Our Father in Heaven gave each of us an 8 year head start when lucifer is not allowed to have any power over us during those first 8 years. Yes, our children make mistakes during those first 8 years, but it is their learning time and when they are baptized at 8-years-old it is not because they need their sins washed away. During those first 8 years, the Atonement of Jesus Christ covers them - they have no sins that need washing away. They are baptized to become members of the Savior's church. They are baptized to enter in by the gate and start on the path and because of this, our Father gives them a gift - the Holy Ghost. What a wonderful gift. He really does all He can to help us make it Home.

During those first 8 years, we can give them the opportunity to learn as much as possible so that when they are at the age of accountability they can be prepared.
