It is pretty common knowledge that I served an Asian speaking mission (Laotian/Thai to be exact) During that time I had the daily opportunity (sometimes several times a day) to eat the most amazing food on the planet! But I have always loved Asian food. I have fond memories of going to Chinese restaurants as a little girl and loving the food. Now with the combined love of the peoples and cultures, my love of Asian food as moved to a whole new level - I actually feel love and happiness and JOY when I eat Asian food. I know, I'm a weirdo.
Anyway...
My sweet Japanese friend Ikko came over one morning to teach me how to make
sushi. Sushi is not Thai and it is not something I have always been
willing to eat but in the past year I have grown to love sushi as much
as pizza!
I always thought sushi was full of raw fish and I didn't think I could get past the seaweed. Oh man I was missing out! I LOVE THE STUFF!!
Troy is the new Mission Leader in our ward. He has bonded with the Zone leaders in our ward so later that same sushi making day (Labor Day 2011) a bunch of missionaries came over as a zone p-day activity to eat Thai spring rolls, pad thai, sticky rice and Troy's homemade rootbeer (quite the combo!)
We taught everyone how to roll their own spring rolls.
My day started off great because Troy had the day off and Lizzy didn't have to go to school. I love it when the whole fam is together. I thought the sushi had completed my happiness that day but with the Thai food, I was on a mission memory high and on top of that, my house was full of righteous, obedient, full-of-light young men and
women who were showering my children with attention and this
mom was beyond happy about that! Wowsers, could that day get any better? But then, then, THEN...
the skies became cloudy and rain poured from the heavens! Yes!
Only in Yuma is rain a picture taking event - doesn't happen that often. And this time it poured! Usually it is just a quick sprinkle to tease me and then the clouds rush away.
Sushi, spring rolls, pad thai, sticky rice, having fun with my family, seeing my children have fun interactions with a bunch of missionaries and then RAIN! It could have only been a day arranged by a loving Father who knows me very well. Could Heaven be any better? (Yes, the food would not cause me to gain any weight - that would be PERFECT!)
Oh Happy Day!!
I miss seeing that fish plate in my fridge full of Love food. I trust that plate now inhabits the Elders' fridge more than your cupboard, which is just one of the little things that make you guys so amazing. Freaking lottery tickets, I tell ya.
