We're going to pause in the middle of my allegory here to share some sweet experiences...like commercials for why we do what we do.
Have you ever wondered why we are commanded to pray every day? Have you ever wondered why you try to teach your children to pray, even when they whine and complain? Do you ever wonder if anything you teach your children is really sinking in? Have you ever thought that your child is too young to really understand what you teach them about our Father in Heaven and His constant love? Are you frustrated that Family Home Evening and family scripture study is great for about 3 seconds?
Well...
Troy had to stay after church on Sunday. I thought Lizzy was with him. He thought Lizzy was with me. She wasn't with either one of us. She was wandering around in the building looking for us. Finally she decided to look outside in the parking lot. Neither one of us was there. So, in her own words this is what she did,
"I thought I better find a special place. I found a place that was special and quiet outside by the flowers. I bowed my head and said, 'Heavenly Father, I can't find my mommy or daddy. Please help me find my mommy's car. I feel really scared and sad. Please help me find my mommy and daddy. In the name of Jesus Christ amen.' When I was done praying, Sister Skankey saw me and asked if I was lost. I said 'yes' and she helped me find daddy. She let me skip in the halls and then we bounced like bunnies while we looked for daddy (Sister Skankey - you are AWESOME!). Heavenly Father helped me mommy, I know He did."

The other day Ben saw a picture of Jesus on our computer. He turned to me and clear as a bell (remember his history of speech problems), he said, "He is my friend."
That's why we say prayers every morning and every night, no matter what. That's why we speak of our Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ and how much They love us and want to help us. That's why we do these things even if we think our children aren't listening or understanding. That's why the little things make a HUGE difference.
Thank you for sharing that experience Lisa. Our lesson on Sunday was on prayer too and how Heavenly Father will hear every prayer and answer each one with a yes, a no or wait a little while. I am so glad He helped her with a yes and right away.
