Lizzy has taken on a personal challenge - a HUGE personal challenge. A few months ago she and I had an experience which opened up a topic of conversation and curiosity for her about cancer. It is not a morbid curiosity or an unrealistic fascination with something that she can't comprehend. She truly is concerned and has big plans for herself in dealing with this disease some day. You can read about that experience here and a follow up post here.
As a result, we are going to be part of the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life this coming April. She and I sat down the other day to write a letter explaining why she is participating and to ask others to support her.
She told me what to write. I did help here and there with proper wording and such but this is what she would type if she could.
My Reason to Relay
In the past few months, I have learned a lot about cancer. I have learned how it forms in our bodies and that it is very painful. My Grandma Davis died of cancer before I was born and I have met others who have cancer - like a boy in my kindergarden class who has Leukemia. I want to be loving to other people who have cancer too.
I want to help. When I grow up, I want to be a scientist and help with cancer. I am going to be part of the ACS Relay for Life in April. My parents and I will take turns walking around a park as part of a team.
Will you please help me by contributing money to this event. My goal is to earn $200.00, but even $1.00 is helpful.
Thank You,
Lizzy Love
If you would like to donate you can check out her ACS page here. As Lizzy walks around the track (probably only one or two times) she is going to wear a shirt on which has been written the names of those who donate to her cause.
I know she is only 6-years-old, but I am not going to discourage this determination she has one single bit. Who knows what is in her future, well, I guess Someone does know and I'll trust Him to guide her paths.
What a little angel! And she already earned beyond her goal! So cool!
