Next door to Lizzy's dance class is a karate studio. I have often contemplated putting Ben in Karate but have hesitated because of the cost and also I've thought he might be too young. The dance studio and the karate studio got together and offered a deal I couldn't refuse. They coordinated their classes so that they are held at the same times and offered two free classes as a trial run. I decided to let Ben give Karate a try. So, while Lizzy was in her dance class, I took Ben over to try some karate.
He LOVED it! He can yell Hi ya! as loud as he likes. He gets to kick and punch and he doesn't get in trouble. He is being taught discipline and respect and the importance of following directions. I absolutely did not believe my eyes when I saw him follow every direction, including ones to stay still!
His teacher has found the perfect balance between being demanding, yet kind and understanding at the same time. He made it very clear that if he was to ever hear that any of his students were kicking or punching or using any kind of karate outside of the class, that he would never allow them to return. Ben took him so seriously that he was afraid to show Troy his karate moves.
We'll see where this goes. I want him to try some team sports next year but karate is a super fit for Ben right now. Go Ben!!
Ben is too cute! Love it! Love all the random pics (I bet I have more than you! My camera is attached to my hip too and I want to document every single second like you, but then don't have time to post them all!) Cute birthday for Ben and awesome cake! Yasmin Fox and family came to El Paso this weekend and couldn't help but think of all of my favorite peeps back in Yuma:)
ReplyDeleteHow cute and fun for Ben! :)
ReplyDeleteSo glad he found something he likes!! It sounds like a good thing for everybody :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome for Ben!!!! Sounds like it's perfect for him. :)
ReplyDeleteIf learning karate means dating Elizabeth Shue a future role on Dancing With The Stars, I think Ben has made an excellent choice. Have him give us a call when he learns to wax a car, sand a deck, paint a fence and kill flies with chopsticks. We've got a few summer jobs for him up here.
