Elmo the Dog

I like dogs. Ben and Lizzy like dogs. The other person who lives in our house (we'll leave that daddy nameless) doesn't like the idea of dogs living in our house. This person likes dogs but not the hair, the poop, the clean up and the vet bills. So, when I saw this opportunity at our public library, I signed my kids up right away.

Elmo is a seeing eye dog in training. His owner needs him to learn how to behave around children so she takes him to the library on Saturday mornings and children come read stories to him. Lizzy and Ben had a blast.

The trainer asked if my kids wouldn't mind kind of running around in the room a bit so she could train Elmo to be still despite the excitement of running children.

Mind running around?

My children?

My energizer bunny children?

Oh, yeah, they were willing to run around.

Elmo did just fine.

Convincing Ben to stop running around was a whole different matter. :)

  1. This is how my children will have to experience the "joy" of pets. Fortunately for me, my children will be blaming both parents about this part of their upbringing when they appear on The View
