Since Troy graduated with his Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh back in Dec. 1999, he has dabbled in a few different areas in which he is qualified to work. He quickly earned his counseling license and has used it off and on over the past 10 years. It can be a frightful thing to open ones own private practice - it is an idea which Troy has toyed with several times. But something clicked in his head back in October of 2009 which caused him to just take the plunge. He submitted his letter of resignation at Yuma Regional Medical Center, rented some office space, bought furniture for the place and hung out his shingle. He is on his own and has never been happier!

We are so proud of his courage to follow his heart, especially in this economy. He is doing what he feels inspired to do and so we know the Lord will bless him in his endeavors. Troy has many gifts that make him an excellent counselor - someone who listens well, understands and knows how to give excellent guidance. He will bless so many lives - we have no doubt.
Side note - those of you who know me and may find yourself needing to speak to a therapist for any reason... Please KNOW that Troy is very professional. I will have no idea that you are even seeing him, nor will I have any idea what issues he is discussing with his clients. When he worked as a therapist a few years ago, people thought I knew everything and either felt very uncomfortable around me or spilled their guts, thinking that I already knew. All I need to know is that Troy is seeing enough clients to bring home a paycheck! :)
That is so neat that he is starting that journey. Good luck! I love that quote, it is something that is very needed in our lives right now. Dallon decided to quite his masters program and so we are back to trying to find a job that pays enough for us to live on. We have tried to remind ourselves not to look back and have regrets but we end up finding ourselves doing anyways and it really doesn't get us anywhere. From here on out we need to look to the future.

ReplyDeleteYuma could use another good therapist. There are a few really good ones, but too many that just aren't doing a great job with their clients. My foster daughter actually saw a therapist out of state via a live feed on television. Weird!

Congratulations to Troy and you for supporting him! I know he wouldn't be doing this without your help too Lisa. I was wondering why he quit his job when you mentioned it in an earlier post... but now I completely understand why. Sometimes when others don't know why you are doing the things you are doing... it is always comforting to know that the Lord above all knows why and approves. Hence our journey into the army from a previous much more paying job. But we are so happy at this time in our lives and I know ya'll will be too!

ReplyDeleteTroy is an amazing man with an amazing wife who have a wonderful relationship and family...there is not even a question in my mind that he won't succeed and that the people in Yuma won't be better for his work and service!
